The Centre is also engaged in education on all levels at both universities. CERE strives to contribute to a rapid transformation towards a sustainable society both through rigorous economic research that supports decision-making and enhancing sustainability awareness among students at both universities. See vision and mission below.

How CERE came to be

CERE was created by professors of economics Runar Brännlund and Bengt Kriström, who were located in Umeå on the same campus but at different universities – Umeå University and the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences. These universities are themselves leading in the field of environmental and resource economics and the professors thought it only natural that they ought to collaborate since it would be beneficial for everyone. What this collaboration should look like was then discussed in detail and led to the establishment of CERE, the Centre for Environmental and Resource Economics in 2009.

Organisation

Our Management

The day-to-day operation are managed by a director and a deputy director.
