About Cere

CERE was created by professors of economics Runar Brännlund and Bengt Kriström, who were located in Umeå on the same campus but at different universities – Umeå University and SLU. These universities are themselves leading in the field of environmental and resource economics and the professors thought it only natural that they ought to collaborate since it would be beneficial for everyone.  What this collaboration should look like was then discussed in detail and led to the establishment of CERE, the Centre for Environmental and Resource Economics in 2009. The CERE members are predominantly from the Unit of Economics at the Umeå Business School of Economics and Statistics, the Unit of Economic History, also at Umeå University, and the Department of Forest Economics at SLU.

What we do

Annually CERE organizes several seminars with national and international researchers within the field as well as the environmental and resource economics conference held on the Island of Ulvön where young researcher can present to and discuss with prominent researchers within the field. The Centre is also engaged in education on all levels at both universities. Through the work of spreading knowledge within the field CERE hope to contribute to a state-of-the-art education where cutting-edge theoretical and empirical research lead to the design of transformational policy that addresses rapid and sustainable progress towards a sustainable society.
